Sioux City, Iowa like many places was originally inhabited by American Indians; Wambdi Okicize, better known as War Eagle once roamed the Sioux City area. Then the Spanish and French toured the area. Mostly, these people were fur traders. Even Meriwether Lewis and William Clark explored the Sioux City terrain.

Theophile Bruguier is accredited with being the first white settler in Sioux City, Iowa. The first female Sioux City doctor was Agnes Eichelberger.

Rivercade occurs during the summer. Another exciting Sioux City celebration is ArtSplash. Sioux City’s Awesome Harley Nights was renamed Awesome Biker Nights. This city is also renowned for its annual Chili Cook-off, Cornstock, June Jam, Missouri River Open Bass Tournament and Saturday in the Park.

Other exhilarating annual events include Siouxland Lewis & Clark Marathon, Greater Siouxland Fair & Rodeo, The Big Parade, Waterfest, and Winnebago Powwow. Moreover, Sioux City is home to the NASCAR-Winston Racing Series.
